PROJECT 9 : (G) INTEGRATED PROJECT (ANGLE)

After one week semester break (5 Nov 2011 - 13 Nov 2011), I had enjoy myself for my hometown, Kajang, Selangor but not all I very busy for my three assignments. However, semester break had give me relax at home.

Now (14 Nov 2011), I know assignment of studio must be done. That first project after semester break - one big project in group. Here their project need.

REFINEMENT - Planning/Designing/Managing

Tasks & Requirements

• This is a group project. Based on the current group, sudents are required to discuss and understand MISSION and VISION of USM. Students must interpret their understanding of MISSION and VISION of USM as a theme in the design of a single storey freestanding structure (pavilion) with a floor area not exceeding 500 square metres.
• The site of the project will at the USM's Convocation Site and shall not be more than 2500 square metres. Refer to the attached Location Plan.
• Students should conduct a group discussion in preparation of the Project Brief, which must contain the project title, work program, work schedule and division of tasks.
• Students are required to conduct site analysis and gather information on the existing structures and neighbourhouring plots and buildings current land use, traffic, soil conditions, wind direction, sun path, existing site condition, etc.
• Students are then required to design a Free Standing Structure, which will function as an information Centre for USM. The product must also act as a landmark for USM's APEX University status. Students are required to provide bubble diagrams and conceptual ideas as a basis for design.
• Students must ensure that the design of four basic spaces, i.e.. exhibition space, sitting room, sales area and toilet facilities. Students are allowed to introduce other spaces or elements in the design. 
• Students need to show the structural system and construction materials used and specifications in the design. The design of the proposed Free Standing Structure must take info account the structural integrity and reliability aspects of construction (buildability). The proposed building materials should also emphasize the concept of 'GREEN BUILDING'.
• Students must understand the building services and maintenance aspects of the building (e.g.. electrical installation, lighting systems, building security systems, fire prevention and control system, etc.)
• Finally, students must be able to provide premilinary design assesssment for the esstimated cost of the proposed Free Standing Structure.
• This project requires to submit a Design Proposal that consists of Key Plan, Location Plan, Site Plan, Floor Plan, Elevations, Perspectives and Site Information and Analysis.
• Students need to provide a model of the proposal by using Monochrome materials as well as an A4 size report of the Development Proposal of the USM's APEX Free Standing Structure.
• Submission requirements:
1. Report of Development Prooposal of the USM's APEX Free Standing Structure.
2. Minimum of 2 papers in size of A1 that can load with Design Proposal scale of 1:100 and Site Plan scale of 1:500.
3. Site Proposal and Building Model scale of 1:200.

Project Objective:

• Students will be able to understand and identity the role of different actors in the course of a development project. Students will be able to perform the asic tasks of each actor involved and teamwork participation in a production of a project. The success of this project will rely on the each student's responsibility, ethics and the expertise in their respective disiplines.

Submission Date:

• Students must submit their works to the Studio Lecturer on 02 Dec 2011 at 11.15 am.

At first, we hear lecturers's advise about this project for how we can manage and arrange the schedule what we do for two weeks 5 days to prevent waste time. That one important value for us.

After hear their advise on us, our group start to discuss how to plan in this project. Firsty, Mun Hai Hoang (Architecture) as a leader for Group 4. When we discuss, we plan each member in our group must own responsibility what we take course. For example, I, Chong Kai Zhen, am responsible as Interior Designer designing interior the building after building designed by Architect. Architect student designing the building. Construction Management student responsible in managing the schedule, and so on. That first discussion or meeting. Discussion end. Success!

Next, second meeting, our group member got the information about MISSION and VISION of USM. So, Architect and Interior Design gather to discuss about the building that must related to MISSION and VISION of USM. We sketch in free hand drawing as a first drawing. And bubble diagram too.

I had draw for interior design.

For exhibition, I design it with flat earth model for carpet floor. On plan, the walls of exhibition design look as like as compass figure. Then, two small curve roof for both two entrance of exhibition.

For toilet, garden bond as a wall. Tile for floor.

For sitting area, chair to be a long chair with wood material.

After two weeks, we finally complete for our group in one week only.

Overall, I very proud for my group member because they are hardworking for help and write for report. That one responsible what we should do like as actor respectively. That one good experience on me for future. Also have value what I should know. Communication is important. Without communication in group, we cannot produce good products. Next time, I should improve as I can in one day. I must do the best in my presentation for next semester.
