PROJECT 5 : THE MASK (SPECULATIVE)

This project need me to make a "FEELING MASK" produced from interpretation of a person's face recorded when in reaction when I entering a room or space such as glorifying space, creepy space, living happy space, sad space or other areas deemed appropriate.

In this project, I should use papier mache as the main. What is papier mache? From free Wikipedia, Papier-mâché (French for 'chewed paper'), alternatively, paper mache, is a composite material consisting of paper pieces or pulp, sometimes reinforced with textiles, bound with an adhesive, such as glue, starch or wallpaper paste.

Things that I need to make papier mache mask are :
1. New or old newspaper
2. Tissue
3. Plastic wrap
4. Flour and water
5. Brush
6. PVA glue
7. Water colour  or paint
8. Scissor
9. Bowl
10. Hair dryer

Here there are some steps how I can to make papier mache mask.
Before start the mask, use a bowl, add two cups or one cup half of flour and one cup of water. Stir the mixture of flour and water. Cut the newsapaper into strip, about one inch width.

Step 1 : Cover around the face with plastic wrap.
Step 2 : Paste the newspaper into the face and dry a while. Then, paste again as you think the mask enough thick.
Step 3 : Add the elbow and mouth using tissue to look as human-like.
Step 4 : Dry the mask using hair dryer. Cut the eye of mask.
Step 5 : Colouring the mask.

I use "rhythm" as a theme for my mask. This is because Project 5 need us to produce "FEELING MASK". Thus, I make a smiling face when I hear a music played in piano. Plus, eye of mask show miss for music. This line shown flow of energy because yellow symbol of happiness and energy. It looks like as flow in air. That line I like from Vincent Van Gogh who is famous in artist. There a sample of his drawings which look rhythm-like.
