PROJECT 02: ONE FUNCTION SPACE_SKETCHES, DRAWING, MODEL-PRODUCT

Following the Project 02, every individual student must produce a model of chair.
In tasks of Project 02,

Under the Tourism Promotion Organization for Asia Pacific Cities (TPO) plan venue on 5-7 September 2012 at the Shangri La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa. Students required to identify the disered space in the following location such as Penang Airport International Terminal, Penang Hotel Shangri La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and Penang Youth Parks/Botanical Gardens.

Students as designers need to produce a chair design that can accommodate three (3) people to sit. The chair must give a "name" to portrayed as "Chair Designers". The chair should meet the Ergonomics requirements. The function of the chair is free, but should fulfill the use of Space that selected.

In Design Proposal Presentation, students are required have:
1. Concept/Idea or statement that describes the design and development process to explain the concept/idea, not less than 500 words,
2. Orthographic 2D drawings and sections to show the view of the dimensions and specifications (Top, Front, Back and Side),
3. 3D Oblique drawings for exploded views in Isometric and Perspective for aesthetic information. The scale of drawings is 1:10 mm.

The model should be in 1:10 mm scale.

PROJECT BRIEF 02

This project brief had gave us on 27 February 2012, I am in very busy with my activity, that is chinese orchestra performance will be held on 4 March 2012. To prevent waste time for this project, I manage time to develop my idea to produce chair.

Firstly, I choose one location. That is Penang Botanical Gardens. I arrange my time when will go there. On 28 February 2012, afternoon, my friend and I went to there for analysis and identity the site of Penang Botanical Gardens. When I reach there, that day was hot due to early evening but the wind was good condition.

Next, I collect the images of aesthetics and creative chair from books and also with internet. In my mind, chair for Penang Botanical Gardens is known as bench. The color of gardens is green. So, my concept for  my chair is "GRENCH", combination between "GRE-" (GREEN) and "-NCH" (BENCH).


Here, my first crit to shown.

But lack of aesthetics, too simple and no expression.

Further more development, here second crit to shown.

Have ventilation for back of chair. Ventilation is good to cool down the human heat when sitting after jogging. However, it looks have no aesthetics as like as bird nest (a awesome stadium in Beijing). So, need to improve.

Finally, my third crit, my final idea to shown.

I add four stands-by for at the back of chair with tress in shape. That will be more amazing when that stand is lamp full covered with plastics. Thus, it will switch on automatically in the night by using solar energy.

Now, I need to make model before draw on A1 cartridge paper. Here, how I make a chair model.

 Making first with mounting board to check how big one for chair.
